SUMMARY:How do you do co-creation in mental health?
DESCRIPTION:Watch this event again\nPeople have the right to participate in decisions and processes which affect them\, and there is a growing demand for the systematic protection of this right for people with lived experience of mental health problems. People with lived experience have had few opportunities to participate in creating policies and services that meet their needs\, and when they are involved\, they are listed under ‘acknowledgments’\, not ‘co-authors’. They are denied an opportunity to own these policies and services\, despite their having a direct impact on people’s mental health and well-being. \n  \nMental Health Europe defines co-creation in mental health as “a collaborative approach involving all actors in mental health working together on an equal basis to develop and implement policies\, services\, programmes\, and communication that foster positive mental health according to a psychosocial model and human rights-based approach.” \n  \nCo-creation must be the standard. Co-creation benefits people with lived experience by reducing stigma and discrimination related to mental health\, promoting self-efficacy and self-esteem\, increasing mental health literacy\, and making sure that their real needs are taken into account. At the same time\, it makes mental health systems more effective and accessible by \n\nenabling more effective forms of support for people experiencing mental ill health\nincreasing the availability and value of interventions to prevent mental health conditions and promote well-being.\n\n  \nBut how is it done? How can you do it? \n  \nThis European Public Health Week\, which coincides with European Mental Health Week\, WHO Regional Office for Europe and Mental Health Europe are hosting a webinar exploring this question. Over 1.5 hours\, people with lived experience\, public health professionals\, and experts will examine co-creation from the ground up\, asking what it takes to start\, and more importantly\, how to keep it going. \n  \nJoin us on 14 May at 10:00–11:30 CEST \nRegister Now\nDowload the Agenda

SUMMARY:Get Out & Vote!
DESCRIPTION:ONLINE \nMental Health Europe is hosting the 5th edition of the European Mental Health Week between 13-19 May 2024\, under the theme “Better Together: Co-creating the Future of Mental Health”. \nAccording to the last Eurobarometer survey\, 89% of European citizens consider mental health as important as physical health. Co-creation is a collaborative approach involving all\nactors in mental health working together on an equal basis to develop and implement policies\, services\, programmes\, and communication that foster positive mental health according to a psychosocial model and human rights-based approach. \nMental Health Europe calls for co-creation as a path of transformation\, moving away from systems where non-participation and tokenism are the norms\, towards one which is based on collaboration\, partnership\, and true understanding of needs. Co-creation – applied in policies\, practices\, research and communication- has the potential to bring us closer to our vision of societies that promote positive mental health for all\, intervene early when problems develop\, and provides accessible\, comprehensive and community-based mental health services for those who need them. Therefore\, if we want to have an EU that acts for what matters to those residing in Europe\, it is essential to co-create the future together and go to vote\, to ensure we have a say in the building the society we want. This year’s EMHW is in line with the EU Elections\, which will be taking place in June 2024. As part of the week\, we will be organising an LinkedIn event focusing on mental health and co-creation in view of the upcoming European elections in 2024. \nMental Health Europe will be joined by The European Parliament Partnership Team and The Good Lobby \nRe-Watch the Event\nEP Elections\nThe Good Lobby\n
