SUMMARY:Stronger Together Breaking stigma. Building communities of care
DESCRIPTION:Stronger Together: Breaking Stigma\, Building Communities of Care An Online Mental Health Awareness Event | European Mental Health Week 2026 \nThere is an Igbo adage ‘Onye aghala nwanne ya’; that means: Be your brother’s keeper. It is a call to collective responsibility\, and it is the spirit behind this event. \nMental health remains one of the most unspoken struggles in African diaspora communities. Stigma\, misconceptions\, and a culture of “hustling alone” mean that too many people are carrying invisible weight in silence. This has to change\, and change begins with these kinds of conversations with each other. \nOrganised as part of European Mental Health Week\, this online event brings together three diaspora organizations and more\, to create a culturally safe\, inclusive space where mental health can be spoken about openly\, honestly\, and without shame. Together\, we will explore how cultural\, social\, and environmental factors shape our mental wellbeing\, and how\, as a community\, we can move from isolation to solidarity. \nThrough facilitated discussions and shared insights\, participants will examine what community care truly looks like in practice: the power of support\, approaches to mental wellness\, and how we collectively dismantle the lonely hustle culture that leaves too many of us walking alone. \nThis is not just an awareness event. It is an invitation to build something\, communities where no one\, regardless of their struggle\, is ever left behind. \nTO JOIN ON ZOOM: Meeting ID 223 973 5671 \n  \nLINKS  \nhttps://www.otuumunwanyi.com/ \nhttps://behindmarygiftwallsfoundation.org/ \nhttps://igbounionantwerpen.com/

SUMMARY:Improving the mental health of informal carers and professional carers through care partnerships: insights from the WELL CARE project.
DESCRIPTION:Caring for someone can be mentally draining and exhausting. Both informal carers -who provide unpaid care to a loved one outside a formal framework- and professional long-term care (LTC) workers face an increased risk of compromised mental health over time. \nThe WELL CARE project (2024–2027) aims to guide investment in carers’ mental health and wellbeing by identifying\, evaluating and promoting good practices across Europe. It also examines structural factors and develops policy recommendations. The project explores which practices and policies directly improve mental health\, as well as those that prevent or mitigate occupational and non-occupational risks. \nWELL CARE is grounded in the assumption that integrated care and care partnerships can help reduce these risks\, making it particularly relevant to the theme of Mental Health Week\, “Stronger Together”. \nWe will present key findings from a recently finalised report featuring 10 in-depth case studies across five European countries. These practices were selected through extensive mapping and stakeholder engagement\, including professionals\, users and informal carers. The report highlights their potential in terms of care partnerships\, sustainability and transferability. \nWe will also showcase two innovative examples: Community Circles in the Netherlands and E-Qalin in Slovenia\, illustrating community-based and quality assurance approaches.\nThe webinar will be facilitated by Prof. Elisabeth Hanson\, main investigator\, with the aim to engage informal carers\, LTC professionals and organisations active in the care sector in a meaningful exchange. \nRegister Now\n  \nLINKS \nhttps://wellcare-project.eu/

SUMMARY:Culture and Health Online Webinar Scaling up Arts on Prescription Models: From Evidence to Regional Implementation
DESCRIPTION:The webinar “Scaling up Arts on Prescription Models: From Evidence to Regional Implementation” will explore how culture-based interventions can be integrated into health systems across Europe\, with a specific focus on mental health and wellbeing. \nThe first part of the session will provide an overview of Arts on Prescription (AoP) models\, drawing on recent developments in countries such as Greece\, the Baltic Sea region and the United Kingdom. Contributions from research and institutional actors\, including inputs from WHO\, will present the current evidence base\, including findings from large-scale studies and emerging policy frameworks. This segment will set the context by outlining how AoP initiatives contribute to mental health promotion and how they can be scaled within different health system settings. \nThe second part of the webinar will focus on implementation at regional and local level. Through a guided discussion\, regional and local health authorities will reflect on how they are integrating Arts on Prescription into policy and practice. Key questions will address governance\, financing\, cross-sector collaboration\, and strategies to ensure long-term sustainability and territorial uptake. Concrete examples from different European regions will illustrate how policy actions are being developed and operationalised in practice. \nOverall\, the event aims to foster exchange between sectors\, support mutual learning\, and identify actionable pathways for embedding Arts on Prescription within health systems across Europe. \n  \nhttps://www.instagram.com/eu.regha/ \nhttps://it.linkedin.com/company/euregha \nhttps://www.facebook.com/EUREGHA/

SUMMARY:What Europe’s Mental Health Ecosystem Needs to Thrive in 2026
DESCRIPTION:Format: Webinar \nThis free online event presents the initial outcomes of the “What Europe’s Mental Health Ecosystem Needs to Thrive in 2026” initiative\, which combines participatory input from organisations across Europe with an interactive digital ecosystem visualisation. \nOrganisations contribute short\, structured inputs on their actions\, challenges\, and unmet needs. These are brought together within a shared interactive ecosystem (a landing page displaying a florarium with plants)\, where each organisation forms part of a living system shaped by different social\, economic\, and policy conditions. \nThe session will: \n\nintroduce the ecosystem as a way to make visible the diversity and interdependence of actors across Europe\nhighlight recurring barriers and unmet needs emerging from participating organisations\npresent initial directions for a short mental health ecosystem insight report\n\nBy combining visual representation with structured input from the field\, the initiative offers a grounded snapshot of how mental health systems operate in practice and where support is most needed. \nMore Information here: https://sense-maker-hub.com/ecosystem/ \nRegister\n  \nSocial Media Links \n\n– www.linkedin.com/in/natalia-maximets/\n\n

SUMMARY:Voices of youth mental health in Central & Eastern Europe: stronger together
DESCRIPTION:This regional online session brings together youth voices\, practitioners\, mental health advocates\, and organisations from Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) to explore how social\, digital\, and structural changes are shaping youth mental health across the region. \nAs part of the broader “Voices of Youth Mental Health in CEE” campaign\, the session will showcase lived experiences\, emerging insights from youth-led storytelling\, and ongoing efforts to redesign mental health services to be more accessible\, community-based\, and person-centred. \nThe event will combine short inputs from youth contributors and regional experts with an interactive discussion across countries. Participants will engage in a cross-country learning exchange\, reflecting on shared challenges such as inequity\, service gaps\, and the pressures faced by young people\, while also showcasing innovative\, community-driven responses from across the region. \nBy centring youth voices\, particularly those with mental health conditions\, and collective experiences\, the session aims to move beyond individualised narratives of mental health and instead foreground the structural conditions shaping wellbeing in CEE.\nThe event is hosted by Let’s CEE\, a regional initiative working to develop youth-friendly\, walk-in mental health services across Central and Eastern Europe through participatory and community-based approaches. \nThe event is open to the public and is free\, and registration is required through Zoom here: https://gwu-edu.zoom.us/meeting/register/hdwI8ff8QZ-frnXCNI1t_g \nYou can visit the event’s Facebook page here: https://fb.me/e/8PYNV5UvQ \nParticipants can join at the starting point of the city walk or attend specific segments (picnic\, yoga\, EFI sessions). SUMMARY:Breathing Through Change: Online Breathing Workshop for Mental Wellbeing
DESCRIPTION:Breathing Through Change: Online Breathing Workshop for Mental Wellbeing is a live free online workshop exploring the connection between stress\, breath\, and mental wellbeing in the context of changing work life. \nAs many people across Europe navigate increasing digital demands\, uncertainty\, constant connectivity\, and pressure to perform\, stress can become a persistent background state that affects focus\, emotional regulation\, and overall wellbeing. This session offers an accessible\, evidence-informed introduction to how breathing patterns influence the nervous system\, and how simple breathing practices can support moments of overwhelm\, tension\, and mental fatigue during the workday. \nThe workshop will combine a short educational segment with guided practical exercises that participants can immediately apply in everyday life and work settings. Rather than presenting mental wellbeing as an individual responsibility alone\, the session also opens reflection on how workplace culture\, pace\, and social environments shape how people feel and function. \nThe goal is to offer a practical\, inclusive\, and low-barrier experience that helps participants better understand stress\, feel more connected to their bodies\, and leave with tools they can use in a sustainable way. \nThis event is open to the public and suitable for professionals\, teams\, and anyone interested in accessible approaches to mental wellbeing. \nTWO SESSIONS \n\n– 6th of May – 11:30 – 12:00\n– 8th of May – 11:30 – 12:00\n\n  \nRegister\nhttps://www.instagram.com/balance_breathing/ \nhttps://www.linkedin.com/company/balance-breathing

SUMMARY:Between Convictions and Psychiatric Labels: Beliefs\, Polarisation and Mental Health in a Changing Europe
DESCRIPTION:When people argue that rising immigration is part of a deliberate plan by political elites to reshape society and replace existing populations\, it can be difficult to make sense of this belief. Those who hold this view may feel they are simply seeing patterns that others miss\, and their certainty can grow stronger when they find others who confirm it.\nSo\, what kind of belief are we dealing with? Is it an extreme political belief\, shaped by the social world around us? Or does it share features with the kind of thinking that clinicians sometimes encounter\, beliefs so fixed and distressing that\, in the context of serious mental health difficulties\, they might be understood as part of a clinical picture? \nStrongly held beliefs and clinical presentations can look surprisingly similar: resistant to change even in the face of evidence\, and bound up with fear\, identity\, or a need to make sense of a confusing world. What often makes the difference is that extreme beliefs are shared\, circulating in communities and public debate\, while more clinical forms of thinking tend to be idiosyncratic. \nAt a time of polarisation\, misinformation\, and rapid social change\, beliefs do not emerge in a vacuum. They are shaped by social identity and the wider climate\, which is why the line between shared convictions and clinical presentations can sometimes seem blurred. \nIn this 40-minute webinar\, Professor Richard Bentall and Dr Almudena Trucharte will explore these cases through an interview-style conversation\, linked to the IN-MIND project (Horizon Europe Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action)\, opening a compassionate conversation about the grey area in between. \nRegistration is free and can be completed via the following link: \nhttps://crm.epha.org/civicrm/event/register?reset=1&id=180

SUMMARY:Grounded Together: Embodied Awareness for Wellbeing and Responsible Decisions (Italian)
DESCRIPTION:How we show up for others depends\, first\, on how present we are within ourselves. This is the core proposition of Grounded Together\, two online sessions offered during the European Mental Health Week 2026 by a methodologist and a speech-language therapists Phd in pedagogy\, both specialists in embodied learning and applied somatic awareness. \nAcross two 90-minute sessions\, teachers\, educators\, health professionals\, parents\, and members of the general public are invited to explore a simple but consequential insight: that the quality of our attention\, our decisions\, and our care for others is shaped by our bodily state by whether our nervous system is regulated or reactive\, open or contracted. \nSession one focuses on everyday connection\, in families\, classrooms\, care settings\, and communities\, and offers accessible\, experience-based practices to support genuine presence and responsive listening. Session two addresses decision-making under pressure: how to stay grounded when we must make choices that affect the wellbeing of children\, young people\, or vulnerable groups\, including in contexts where digital tools increasingly assist or substitute human judgment. \nBoth sessions use a secular\, scientifically grounded\, and participatory approach. No prior experience is required. Language is inclusive and free from clinical framing. \n  \nhttps://www.instagram.com/mariafabiani.eu/ \nhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/mariafabiani/ \nhttps://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100014890231634

SUMMARY:Mental Health as a Public and Legal Concern. Beyond the Clinical Gaze. Who Cares?
DESCRIPTION:This presentation will critically explore the concept of mental health and its implications for law and policy. It will begin by examining how “mental health” is commonly understood\, often being conflated with mental illness\, and would trace a paradigm shift from a narrow\, medicalised perspective to one that emphasises prevention and the recognition of structural determinants. Central to this shift are the ICESCR\, which underscores mental health as an essential dimension of the right to health\, and the CRC\, which promotes a pervasive preventive approach to mental health. The CRPD further advances this shift by focusing\, among other things\, on the right to prevent mental health deterioration. \nGiven the shortcomings of current national mental health systems\, which struggle to meet the increasing demand for mental health services\, and the political guidelines set by EC President von der Leyen for 2024 to 2029\, which emphasise the urgent need for preventive mental health strategies and propose a new Action Plan on the European Pillar of Social Rights\, the presentation would advocate for a comprehensive\, rights-based framework. This framework moves away from reactive systems based on treatment and control towards one that promotes prevention by addressing the social determinants of mental health\, in order to create a more social Europe and an environment that supports mental health for all” \nJoin the event\nThe event will include automated subtitles

SUMMARY:Brilliant but Burned Out. Mental Health\, Precarity\, and the Future of Research
DESCRIPTION:Mental health among early-career researchers is a growing concern. Numerous studies show that PhD candidates are at high risk of developing issues such as depression\, anxiety\, and burnout (e.g.\, Mattijssen et al.\, 2021). Common causes include excessive workload\, high expectations\, lack of work-life balance\, and deep uncertainty about the future (Levecque\, 2018). Despite growing awareness\, practical prevention strategies and structural support remain limited (Satinsky et al.\, 2021). \nAlthough research and innovation are essential to societal progress\, the role of the researcher remains deeply precarious. Many projects lack stable funding\, and budget cuts in research and development undermine the sovereignty and independence of academic work. Researchers face pressure from the “publish or perish” culture\, limited career prospects\, high mobility demands\, and systemic undervaluation of their contributions — all contributing to psychological distress. \nThis presentation aims to:\n1) Raise mental health awareness among PhD students\, researchers\, and higher education leaders;\n2) Reflect on the working conditions in academia\, including job insecurity\, lack of funding\, and performance pressures;\n3) Encourage discussion about shared responsibility and identify actions that policymakers\, institutions\, and researchers themselves can take to improve working conditions and well-being. \nIn line with the EMHW 2025 theme “Care for mental health\, invest in social rights\,” this session highlights how fair employment\, recognition\, and stable conditions are essential for protecting researchers’ mental health and sustaining the future of academic work. \nRegister now

SUMMARY:Making Mental Health Visible: Data as a Tool for Rights
DESCRIPTION:Equitable societies invest in mental health. \nOur dashboards will give an idea of where we stand and where we can improve. \nMental health is shaped by poverty\, unemployment\, inequality\, and the strength of our social protections. Yet across Europe\, these realities are often invisible — and mental health remains underfunded. \n  \nAs part of EU Mental Health Week\, we are launching two new dashboards — designed for ongoing updates to reflect Europe’s evolving mental health landscape: \nOne mapping the prevalence of mental health conditions and the stigma. \nOne tracking policy action\, including investment\, service integration\, and workforce capacity. \n  \nThese tools offer a vital starting point — but they also reveal a critical gap: we urgently need more and more current data to drive real\, rights-based change.\nWithout better data\, there can be no true investment in mental health — and no resilient\, just and inclusive society \nJoin us to explore the evidence\, hear from key voices\, and call for mental health to be recognised and protected as a fundamental social right.\nTogether\, let’s turn data into rights — and rights into reality.

SUMMARY:Unleashing the Power of Multidisciplinary Collaboration for Better Mental Health: lessons learned from exploring and implementing cross-sectoral mental health competency framework
DESCRIPTION:Mental health does not exist in isolation – it is shaped by social conditions such as poverty\, inequality\, employment\, and education. The EU-PROMENS Project\, funded by the EU4Health programme\, is an initiative aimed at strengthening the capacity of health professionals across Europe in the field of mental health to deal with those challenges through promotion of multidisciplinary approach. The project focuses on multidisciplinary training and knowledge exchange\, ensuring that professionals – from healthcare providers to educators and social workers – are equipped with the skills needed to address mental health challenges in diverse community settings. By implementing an exchange programme involving 27 EU Member States\, Norway\, and Iceland\, EU-PROMENS fosters collaboration between sectors\, reinforcing the importance of mental health in all policies. \nExperts will present the development and implementation of a cross-sectoral mental health competency framework designed to strengthen collaboration between healthcare\, social services\, education\, and justice sectors; ensure professionals are equipped with the necessary skills to address mental health holistically; improve accessibility and quality of care through interdisciplinary training and knowledge exchange. \nMental health services often operate in silos\, leading to gaps in care and missed opportunities for intervention. This webinar explores how breaking down these barriers through competency-based approaches can promote mental health equity by integrating care across multiple domains; empower practitioners with shared best practices and resources; shape policy recommendations that embed mental health into broader social rights frameworks. \nBy leveraging insights from EU-PROMENS Project\, this event will serve as one more input to the structural reforms\, demonstrating how competency frameworks can be instrumental in improving mental health systems across Europe.
