MHE at the Conference on Democracy and Community Mental Health Care

Today (22 June) MHE is set to participate in the Conference on Democracy and Community Mental Health Care in Trieste, Italy. The event marks the 40th anniversary of Law 180, the legislation which led to the closure of all the Psychiatric Hospitals in the country.

With this spirit in mind, the event is focused on deinstitutionalisation and reducing coercion, drawing on best practice from across the globe. Over a hundred speakers have travelled from as far away as Brazil and Palestine to attend.

MHE is being represented by President Jan Berdsen, who is set to participate later today in the Networks for Reforms panel hosted by Gabriele Rocca, Deputy Secretary General of the World Association Psychosocial Rehabilitation. Other speakers come from the EuComs Network, International Mental Health Collaborating Network, and Gamian Europe.

With such a broad range of organisations and people from the mental health field participating in the three day event, MHE hopes to boost its profile and highlight the work it is undertaking on deinstitutionalisation and reducing coercion.
