Raising awareness of the importance of mental health in our daily lives and integrating it into social policies is founded on the discussion of the problems faced by those affected by mental health issues and on analyzing the ways in which policy makers and practitioners can develop mental health strategies for all. The practitioners invited to present their work in the field of care offered to people with poor mental health or to people who support those suffering can shed light on the healthcare system deficiencies and the academics and the representatives of public institutions can take action for improvement. Issues such as poverty, unemployment, sickness and inequality need to be addressed so that better social rights can be designed to tackle the root causes of poor mental health which can affect any person at any time.In a country where mental health issues are sometimes still seen as a stigma, supporting social policies that determine the framework within which the society as a whole can become more mentally healthy requires a broader vision than that of individual suffering or neurobiological explanations and an event such as the European Mental Health Week can provide the platform for initiative.
