Mentally healthy communities: European Mental Health Week, 22-28 May 2023

Mental Health Europe (MHE) invites you to celebrate the fourth edition of the European Mental Health Week (EMHW), which will run from 22 May until 28 May 2023. The theme this year is ‘Mentally Healthy Communities’.

Mental health is universal and essential for thriving communities.  The goal of this year’s Awareness Week is to increase understanding and learning about mental health in our communities, schools, workplaces, and at home so that everyone can thrive and flourish at every stage of life.

Awareness of mental health is increasing but the understanding of it is not necessarily accurate, complete or balanced. We also still have a world where people face stigma, discrimination and challenges getting help.

Many may struggle in silence impacting their wellbeing, relationships, education and work.  Comprehensive knowledge about mental health is a necessary foundation for well-being, especially in our current context of pandemic, climate anxiety, and financial worries, just to mention a few.

Understanding and learning about mental health should start early, at home, within our families and networks, in schools and at our workplaces.  To build mentally healthy communities, we need mental health education and to actively promote it.

This year’s Awareness Week will encourage people and communities to enhance their understanding of mental health.
