Mental health resources for young people

Young people in Europe are in a particularly vulnerable situation when it comes to mental health.  Young people’s mental health was heavily impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. Even far before the onset of the pandemic, the high rate of mental health problems among young people was concerning: one in five adolescents were at risk of experiencing a mental health problem in any given year.

Latest research and reports from many sources reveal that young people are among the groups more at risk of marginalisation and are impacted by socio-economic determinants of health and wellbeing. In addition to this, the consequences of the pandemic put further pressure on young people’s mental health. Many young people are finding that their lives have changed in unsettling ways. Moreover, young people’s mental health needs are not supported early enough and often only at a stage of crisis.

This is why theme ‘Speak up for mental health’ for the 2022 European Mental Health Week put the spotlight on youth mental health as a high-profile societal issue now and in the future.

To support young people’s mental health, we have two useful resources available:

  • Short Guide for Young Adults on Mental Health
  • Short Guide for Personal Recovery in Mental Health

In these short guides, we navigate readers through the mental health journey, including what mental health is, how and when problems might develop and what can be done to feel more in control of one’s own journey.  Feel free to download and use these resources personally and/or share on social media.
