Member instead of Patient – How to Expand an International Model in a Changing Europe based on the Clubhouse Model

Aligned with the European Mental Health Week theme, “Stronger Together: Prioritise Mental Health in a Changing Europe,” the session will highlight the importance of collaboration, inclusion, and innovation in responding to evolving mental health needs.

The focus will be on the Clubhouse model as an evidence-based, community-led approach that promotes recovery, dignity, and meaningful participation for people living with mental illness. Central to this model is the shift from “patient” to “member,” emphasising equality, empowerment, and shared responsibility. Through presentations and dialogue, the event will demonstrate how partnerships between services, communities, and members themselves can build resilient and inclusive systems of support.

The event will highlight co-creation as a key principle, ensuring that people with lived experience are equal partners in shaping mental health services and solutions that are sustainable, inclusive, and responsive to a changing Europe.
